Shape Stamps

I designed 13 simple rubber stamps that you can use to make characters, patterns, landscapes, vehicles, flowers, or… anything. I have been using them to make my own books.

They were produced by Areaware and available directly from them, at BuyOlympia and at gift, gallery and museum shops all over the world.

Touchwords Color Cards

This set of 10 color cards feature die-cuts on the front of each card, allowing children to experience pictures and words visually and tactilely.

They’re produced by Chronicle Books as part of the Touchword Series.

Blue is a blue-winged kookaburra and Brisbane Airport’s mascot. Animated gifs promote Brisbane’s activities and the costumed character greets visitors to the international airport.

Forscherwelt

Forscherwelt

Forscherwelt_logo_Rilla.jpg

Forscherwelt ("Explorer World" in German) is a hands-on lab in Düsseldorf set up by Wonderlabz and Henkel to make science fun for kids.

The world is theirs to explore – climbing the tree by the glass house, scaling the mountain of knowledge and discovering its hidden cave filled with books.

Forscherwelt_symbols_Rilla.jpg

I designed the identity (several interchangeable symbols of various complexity accompanied by a simple logotype), creating characters and populating the interactive wall.

Forscherwelt_characters_Rilla.jpg

Explorer and Explorina, as they came to be known, pop up throughout the world wearing their protective goggles and helmets, popping molecules, taking samples from the rainbow and falling with the rain.

For Puma's international mural sized in-store images, we projected patterns onto life sized cut outs and collaged the photographs together to create other worlds inspired by planets and pinballs.

The models (also shot by Marc Lecureuil) sat on and stepped through the props lending an air of believability to the surreal scenarios.

Cameron&Co is a family and cosmetic dental practice in Townsville, North Queensland, Australia. Forget everything you know about dentists – they have their own vegetable garden and chickens and offer their clients bread fresh from their kitchen.

Top of the world

I have guided the growth and the evolution of the brand for over 20 years – from the name and identity design through to the ongoing production of applications (such as toothbrushes and stationery, to uniforms and signage) and the design and copywriting of print, radio and TV campaigns.

It was a marathon three day session – alongside the likes of The London Police, Dalek, Shoe and Ben Newman.

As part of the Dublin Fringe Festival, Absolut and The Small Print invited ten artists to an open workshop where we each painted a 2.5 metre/8 foot tall Absolut Bottle.

DaMaha

DaMaha

DaMaha_Rilla.jpg

Da'Maha is an organic coconut water and New Zealand start up. The symbol is inspired by the Manaia – a Maori bird-human-fish representing the balance between sky, earth and water.

The product is certified organic and fairtrade and packaged in a recycled steel can which is BPA-Free.

Da'Maha encourage creative reuse of the cans – the photo above is from a particularly inventive customer.

One Sun

One Sun

One Sun is a collection of seven plates and trays across which I retell a Chinese legend of the sun. It’s the story of how the rooster came to wear a red crown and why only one sun rises in our sky each day.

OneSun_01_Rilla.jpg
OneSun_02_Rilla.jpg

I produced a booklet to accompany the series to unlock the story, and bring greater meaning to the collection.

Sleep Seasons Room

Sleep Seasons Room

SleepSeasons_01_Rilla.jpg

On the walls, the seasons merge into one another while the animals sleep, blissfully unaware of their surroundings.

I painted the walls by hand and designed leaf scattered custom carpets. The curtains and bedspread were hand-dyed and appliquéd.

Challenging the traditional idea of hotel design, Hotel Fox in Copenhagen invited 20 artists onsite to create 60 different rooms – with very few restrictions aside from a strict budget.

In the tiny Sleep Seasons Room, I created a cosy nook where the visitors could "hibernate" in a bed covered by a tent.

Garden of Earthly Delights

Garden of Earthly Delights

The Museo del Prado in Madrid houses the Hieronymus Bosch masterpiece "The Garden of Earthly Delights".

Prado_01_Rilla.jpg

I developed the museum's children's products based on the creatures in the painting – designing stationery, stuffed toys, tshirts, bags, ceramics and umbrellas.
