I've always been a little envious of animals who hibernate.
In Room 121 in Hotel Fox Copenhagen, I created a cosy nook where we humans could, at least, try.
As the seasons merge into one another, the animals sleep, blissfully unaware of their surroundings. A family of bears huddle around a winter tree, while a gorilla dreams in the freshness of spring. Out to sea, gigantic whales bask on summer waves and the autumn winds play havoc with hedgehogs and owls.
The custom carpeting features scattered leaves, and guests sit on soft leather stools as though sitting around a campfire.
I'd like to think the guests ponder the passing of time as they turn off the camp light and drift off to sleep in their tent.
The emphasis in this room is on the hand-made. In the midst of a Copenhagen winter we painted intensely for weeks. Meanwhile, my mother in sunny Queensland painstakingly hand-dyed, appliqued and pieced the quilt and curtains – they arrived just in time to unveil at the Hotel's launch.
