Spätzle is in your Neighbourhood
-
In 2004, I made 20 blank toys and sent them to artists around the world. They brought their toy to life and then sent it back to me for photography. I then decided where to send the toy for another remaking...and the process continued.
The project was called Neighbourhood and finally resulted in a cosy felt covered book full of sequences of sewn, painted on, dismembered, reconstructed toys.
Spätzle is one of my toys from the project - initially inspired by the German egg noodles spätzle. He was made by knotting thousands of pieces of wool onto his body.
He doesn't like to talk much because when he does his spätzle hair gets in his mouth and he eats it. It can be dangerous to eat too much of yourself.
Spätzle was subsquently remade by Friends with you and Shynola. He emerged from the process with a red dougal nose and a dark streak.
He's all the better for it, I must say. Which, afterall, is the joy of remixing.
